We are an ambitious and energetic group, our research aims at pioneering the understanding of molecular transort under strong confinement. Such confinement is created using solid-state pores or channels of only a few nanometers or angstroms in size, which is comparable to or even smaller than the permeating molecules (schematically illustrated in the images below). In this new and unknown regime, ground-breaking potential is expected from our research, which is expected to underpin emergent technologies for environment, informatics, biology and energy.

Our philosophy

Our belief is 'Standing on the shoulders of giants, looking back in the history and moving forward a small step!'

Bearing this in mind, all members in Sun Lab are highly recommended to read books on
logical thinking, critical thinking,  science history and other popular science.

Practically, our group seeks for new knowledge of molecules' behavior under strong confinement of a similar size, on the basis of the known knowledge and newly-designed experimental techniques.

We aim to work on ‘art’ science, that is, to unravel the beauty behind the scientific laws as observed in an exquisite experiment. The latter is designed and motivated by strong curiosity in nature.

In the art world,
marsterpieces are motivated by strong feelings to nature, and the latter trigger the invention of performance skills.

In our lab,
research is inspired by novel ideas, and the latter intrigue the development of new experimental techniques to realize the initial ideas and discover new knowledge.

Most importantly, the culture, tradition and history of this group are shaped by all members, activities and stories here.
